Enphase IQ7A Microinverter: UK Compatibility and Performance

The Enphase IQ7A microinverter converts solar-panel DC into AC near the panel. It is an earlier-generation product, and UK installations must use the appropriate regional equipment and design documentation.

What output does the IQ7A provide?

Enphase’s European IQ7 series datasheet lists the IQ7A-72-M-INT with 349W rated AC power and 366VA maximum apparent power. Do not confuse these figures with the connected panel’s DC wattage or a different regional variant.

Can any solar panel be connected?

No. Voltage, current, startup behaviour and approved compatibility must be checked. A high-wattage panel is not automatically a suitable pairing. Use the manufacturer’s design tools and the exact panel datasheet.

What about clipping and shade?

Output may be limited when available panel power exceeds the microinverter’s AC capability. Assess the expected annual effect rather than judging one midday reading. Panel-level operation can reduce some mismatch effects, but cannot recover light blocked by shade.

Monitoring, maintenance and backup

Monitoring depends on the installed gateway and configuration. Confirm homeowner access, support and warranty scope, including roof-access costs if a unit needs replacement.

An ordinary IQ7A grid-connected array does not become an independent backup supply merely because conversion happens at each panel. Storage and outage operation require a compatible complete design.
